Dodge has confirmed that the Dart will not return for the 2017 model year.
The Alfa Romeo-derived compact has been given the ax because it has consistently missed its sales targets since arriving in showrooms in time for the 2013 model year. Dodge tried to reverse the trend a couple of months ago by re-positioning the Dart and simplifying the lineup, but it was too little, too late and sales never went back up.

Company executives have blamed the Dart's failure on a market that's steadily shifting away from traditional sedans and towards crossovers. They nonetheless tried to save the Dart by outsourcing production, but they didn't find another manufacturer willing to build it. With that said, don't expect Dodge to develop a new, improved compact to fill the void left by its smallest model.

Buyers who want to put a Dart in their driveway aren't out of luck yet.

"While there will not be a 2017 model year Dodge Dart, we are working with our dealers to forecast the production and sales volumes that will allow us to satisfy our customer's needs well into the 2017 calendar year," affirmed a company spokesman in a statement emailed to Motor1.
