MG and Rover were owned by two completly seperate companies, but worked together in a situation simular to Fiat and Chrysler. When MG went bankrupt and sold off to the Chinese, BMW stilled owned the rover name and put it up for auction. Ford won because they feared chinese ownership of Rover might affect Land Rover. When Ford Sold Land Rover, of which they also bought from BMW, and Jaguar of which they bought in the 1980's, they also sold the Rover name to Tata. wedding gowns cufflinks
